THE MOORE COUSINS

As we grow older, we sometimes also grow farther apart.  This page features photos and news about the descendants of Lester and Mabel Moore, my grandparents.  Cousins are encouraged to send updates about their families, photos and anything else that will help us keep in touch.  Please send news bits, scanned or digital photos to mail@patmoore.org.

Tidbits of News

  • From Gil (July 5, 2002)

First, I hope everyone understands about us not having the second memorial service right away. We were pretty much exhausted emotionally and physically from our week in Tucson and the drive back. I've been talking to my Mom, Marcia and Dennis about plans for the service in Danville, Il.

My Dad always told me that death should be a time for celebration. He thought of death as the final healing for the Mind, Body and Spirit. Not as something to be feared or saddened by.

Although I miss him dearly and still can not believe that I can't pick up the phone and call him, I find it comforting to remember how he felt about death.

So, in keeping with the idea of celebration we are trying to schedule the service as close to his birthday as possible. (Aug. 21) We are trying for Aug. 24th mid afternoon in Danville. Hopefully, we will have a firm date next week some time.

I have sent pictures of the service we had for my Dad in Tucson. He had wanted his ashes scattered in the desert. We invited his friends to come and share their thoughts about him. From what they said, I think my Dad had great impact on the people he knew in Tucson. Many spoke of how he helped them to reach beyond what they thought was possible for them. I can't think of higher praise.

My Dad had this quote from Bishop John C. Spong on the wall of his office.

"Ultimately, the role of the Christian is to build a world in which all people might be given the strength that would enable them to live, to love, and to be all that God created them to be. So disciples of Jesus must finally live for others."

We will let you all know as soon as possible when and where the memorial service will be. Thanks to all of you for being a friend of my Dad. I know he treasured his relationships with all of you.

  • From Uncle Gene (April 23, 2002)

Upon being diagnosed with ALS, Uncle Gene wrote:

"While one cannot choose many of the facts that make up one's life, one can and must choose the personal response one makes to those facts.  I choose life!  I choose to live by faith, love and hope!  I will accept the given and seek to utilize it for good!  Shalom!"

The cause of Gene's death was cardiovascular disease.  The family is grateful Gene did not have many months of suffering.

  • From Bob (May 8, 2002)

Here's a quick update on our life:  Bonnie is still directing the Fredericktown Christian Preschool. Bob is in his 31st year of teaching math. Barry will graduate on June 16 with a degree from Otterbein in business finance.  His baseball team is in the OAC tournament in Marietta this weekend and Bonnie will be going down to watch games.  Brad finished his freshmen year at Bluffton College (arch rivals of Defiance) and majoring in ?????  He also played baseball this spring.  It will be good to hear from all of you via the website.

  • From Duane (May 4, 2002)

The boys are all playing baseball.  Laura and I will probably see close to 100 baseball games this summer.  I'm coaching Jeremy, the oldest at 13, almost 14 and Ruler of the World.  I've already told him the worse part is he has to drive home with me.

We moved last summer to Lincoln, IL. Laura took a position as the Children's Ministry at Jefferson Street Christian Church here in Lincoln and I decided to follow.   We're pretty much in the middle of nowhere now but enjoying the town.  Boys seem to be enjoying school, but are ready for summer vacation.
